Costs of staying in Milan.

There are a lot of costs you need to think about, including housing and living costs.
After all, your not in your home country and a lot of things are more expensive in Italy than there.

Apart from the costs of the plane or train ticket you need to pay to get to Milan, there are a lot of 'hidden costs' you may never considerd simply because you lived at home where your parents took care of them. That doesn't mean you weren't aware of them - they just never really were your concern because they have been taken care of.

Let's start with the housing costs.

Renting an apartment in large towns and cities are going to be more expensive and can range from 300 euros to 1000 euros a month - it depends on the size ad the area where you choose to stay. Student accommodations will give you the option to rent a room rather than a whole apartment. The price for a room can range between 300 euros to 650 euros a month - this also dependsd on the size of the room and the area. (Find out about finding a place here.)

Apart form the housing costs , there are also 'living costs'.

Prices can vary. Mostly depending on where you live. Tourist areas and the main cities - especially in North Italy - are more expensive than smaller towns.
The approximate prices of some items are listed below in euros:

Milk: 1.20 / Litre
Bread: 3.50 / Kilo
Butter: 1.70 / 250 gr.
Beef: 9.00 / 19.00 / Kilo
Chicken: 8.00 / 10.00 /Kilo
Rice: 1.70 / 2.50 / Kilo
Pasta: 0.80 / 1.20 /Kilo
Mineral water: 0.50 / 0.80 /Litre
Cinema: 7.50
Fast food menu: 5.50
Milan underground ticket: 1.50 (1 journey - 90 mins.)

So considering accommodation, food, telephone and local travel costs, students should consider a monthly budget if 1000/ 1500 euros depending on the location.
